EXAMPLE- whip pan

2.00-2.20 this shot shows two whip pans, the camera goes at a fast pace, zooming into the writing on the 'replica' and then to the 'desert eagle'

The whip pan is used to create a humourous yet fast paced scene, intimidating the characters,
This also shows that Vinnie Jones' character is far dominant, he is clearly observant yet calm, he let's the men go peacefully and does not show any anger towards them.

The shot is used frequently by Edgar Wright, who directed iconic films such as "Shaun of the dead" and Hot fuzz", he uses the technique to create pace and excitement when watched.

The shot is usually created when the camera is panned on a tripod extremely quickly, the picture blurs and creates a speed line effect

This is an iconic and distinctive scene in the film, we are taken into a new dimension and spun round, showing the audience what Vinny Jones has noticed without moving his head. The fact that we do not see Vinny Jones recognize the replica gun shows the audience what type of character he is, he remains very calm and has almost no reaction to the gun being pointed to his head, instead he sips on his pint of beer.
However, when he points out that he has "Desert Eagle .50" on his weapon, the attackers all simultaneously tilt their heads to see the writing, this shows their immaturity and experience in this type of crime, the contrast between the characters is shown in one shot, and the reactions given show the types of characters in the scene.
