EXAMPLE- panning shot:

This is a scene from City of God- the shot follows the characters and what they're talking about, panning through people's faces and attire.
The panning shot shows an array of people, all clearly different, varying in race, threat and class. Some of the people in the crowd are described by a narrator, This is a panning shot and a point of view shot, because he narrator is telling someone who everyone is, pointing out their flaws and projected  emotions.
A point of view shot is very effective shot, especially in this type of context, here it is used with a narrator, this is used often, predominately in more immature films, aimed at under 18's.
